My hastily writtten letter to HRCP

When only one day left, and little time left in scheduled load-shedding, I could come up with only something as abrupt as this ! This was written in an extreme rush , so I couldn't polish it, or add references. More irony is that hand written letters are given more weight, so I had to write it down as well :(. While writing it down, I made a few amendments, which I cannot make here. Khair, the letter begins below: -

Dear Mehdi Sahab

On International Human Rights day, I am writing to you hoping my desperate effort could make a difference. .

Sir, even an ordinary layman has a foreboding now that Pakistan is decending into lawlessness at such a brisk pace -- and people engaging in severe human rights abuses such brazenly and boldly -- that soon this country would simply become inhospitable to civilized humans!

Though many other incidents, but I would like to highlight the most shocking, brutal and unparalleled case -- the broad daylight lynching of Mughees and Muneeb in Sialkot (15th Aug 2010). The boys were falsely, and deliberately so, marked as robbers by their playground foes and then brutally murdered by an organized lynch mob. Videos of this barbarism were aired all over media channels, and still widely available on youtube.

The culprits (including 8 policemen) are arrested, and the trial is going on. However, it is extremely worrying to notice that it is now 4 months siince this tragedy happened but still the mother of tMughees and Muneeb await justice ! Why so ? Because all possible delay tactics are deployed by the aggressors. And since police is also an accomplice, there is little hope that justice would ever be served ! Just last week, the Public Prosecutors refused to follow this case in high court complaining the civil departments are not cooperating with them. This is very depressing !

Sir, my even more senister feeling is that the killing of these two brothers is not a mere INCIDENT; this is begining of a TREND ! This could become a way to settle one's account with one's foe - with a rival in inheritence, cricket, love affairs, setlie an issue after traffic accident, and like... I cannot explain to you how harrassed I am when my younger brother, who happens to be of Mughees's age, goes to college driving his car. And ofcourse, I would never ever NEVER EVER allow him to go out and play with other boys !

BUT is this a solution ?? Should we lock ourselves in homes to prevent mishapes ?? Or shoudl we try to leave this country asap ??? I think NO, and suggest that the only solution is rule of law and STRICT and ONTIME punishment to those who dare to violate human rights, and to those who supervise it, and to those who protect them post their crime.

I therefore urge and appeal Human Rights Commisiion of Pakistan to take serious notice of Sialkot lynching, and take all necessary steps possible capacity to ensure swift justice to the family of Mughees and Muneeb !

Ayatullah Khamenei urges Muslims to support the people of Kashmir

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has appealed to the Muslim elite worldwide to back the "struggle" in Jammu and Kashmir, equating the northern Indian state with the "nations" of Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan. " ," Khamenei said in a message to Haj pilgrims.

"Today the major duties of the elite of the Islamic Ummah is to provide help to the Palestinian nation and the besieged people of Gaza, to sympathize and provide assistance to the nations of Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq and Kashmir, to engage in struggle and resistance against the aggressions of the United States and the Zionist regime,"

India summoned Iran envoy to protest remarks on Kashmir.The statement is, however, welcomed by Hurriyat Conference leader Mirwaiz Omer Farooque.

Recently, Iran has been quite vocal on the issue of Kashmir - few months back Iran's foriegn ministry condemned brute use of force by Indian Army to suppress protest all across Indian Occupied Kashmir. This is however the first time that such an explicit statement came from the highest authority in Iran.

Hope we see the resonance of Ayatullah's words in Shia media sources in Pakistan, hope Iran's clear stance on this issue is appreciated throughout Pakistan, especially at a time when Imam e Kaaba did not utter even a word about Kashmir in his Hajj sermon !

Would Muneeb and Mughees ever get Justice ?

(Sialkot, Pakistan) On 15th August 2010, two teenage brothers, Mughees Sajjad, 18, and Muneeb Sajjad, 16 were brutally tortured to death by a mob of hundreds, after falsely marking them as robbers, while police stood and watched.

Background: Mughees and Muneeb, belonging to Sialkot, used to go  Bottar Village for playing cricket. For an arguemeent over the playground, beside other reasons, some local village boys had developed animosity for the two brothers.

On 15th August, there occurred a robbery and a murder at Bottar Village at dawn on which the villagers were agitated. When Mughees and Muneeb reach Bottar and arrived at the scene to enquire what was going on, the same group of boys with whom they had hostility pointed towards them and shouted "Robbers Robbers !!". The crowd surrounded them and started beating them with sticks, iron rods, and bricks. The minor Muneeb got severely injured and both of them were handed over to rescue 1122

After an hour or so, a more organized mob presumably assembled by the same influential boys reached 1122 and demanded the boys be handed over to them. After contacting police several times, and failing to sought their intervention, the Rescue 1122 workers succumbed to mob's demand, and handed over the boys after duly tying them. What happened next is imaginable....

Paraded on the roads of Sialkot

When the first videos of this horrible episode surfaced on TV channels,  the Supreme Court of Pakistan took sou motto notice of this brutal lynching incident and ordered an enquiry. The enquiry team headed by former LHC judge Justice Kazim Malik submitte their report stating that Muneeb and Mughees were NOT ROBBERS .

The culprits were caught on camera, and all of them were arrested within 3 weeks. 

However, the ongoing trial is continuously being influenced by significant people from Botter village, and local police since the local police is also an accomplice in this broad daylight barbarism

Protests all over the country and even abroad were held, BUT only for a month or so. Soon the media and the masses forgot them!

 Lets see if they could ever get justice, and the culprits get the most severe punishment possible, or this case keep on hanging like Mukhtara Mai's !
